We're busy learning, learning, learning! We had our first Common Assessments last week. This means the entire First Grade Class took the same tests. These are to give us an indication on how the students will perform on the end of year assessment, SAT 10. They were challenging so do not be alarmed at lower than expected scores. These are predicting how well they know what they need to know by the end of the year. It is somewhat confusing if you have questions, please let me know.
You should have received an adorable School House Invitation to our Open House tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Open House is at 5:00 p.m. We really hope all parents are able to attend. The children are trying to earn a popcorn party! :)
This week we are starting on concepts of Addition in Math. In Reading we are learning about characters and particularly what we can learn from characters in a story by looking at what they are doing (their actions). We are reading about Storms this week.
You will notice the stories printed out in their homework folders. The books are brand new and to try and keep them in good condition and avoid any damage charges to you, I thought this would be easier. When the stories get longer, you might see the books.
We're off to a great start. Remind your child about their best effort. Especially, paying attention and not talking during instruction. :)
Have a great week! Hope to see you at Open House!
