It's been a little while since I posted. I got a little behind, maybe even overwhelmed when the class size about doubled. In one short month, we've went from 15 on the roll to 26 on our roll. That's a big change and we're about there adjustment. We're trying to solidify those routines and structures to keep us learning and moving forward. As I've said all along First Grade is a big adjustment from Kindergarten and so we're moving forward and if you and just continue to reinforce the reason we're here is to learn and learning does not happen without listening!! :) I appreciate your support.
Coming up....we will be doing a "special" pumpkin investigation unit this Friday. I am so excited. I really appreciate those who are volunteering to come an who are bringing pumpkins. That is so helpful and the kids will really enjoy these learning activities and I believe so will you! :) We've been doing several pumpkin related activities all month long so this will be a great culmination to those learning opportunities.
Also, this Friday, October 31, 2014 there will be a Soaring Skyscraper party for those who have been proficient and/or shown significant growth on the Common Assessments. I am so happy with the growth we've seen in Reading. We need to get moving on our Math Scores also. We're not doing as well in that area. Students need to be studying Math Facts and I think this will help them to improve in Math also. Not all students will be able to attend. Proficiency, Growth and Behavior/Attitude are requirements to attend the Soaring Skyscrapers party. It's a huge "deal". Keep working hard. If the first one is missed there will be more throughout the year.
Also, we have a Field Trip on Friday, November 14, 2014. We will be going to the Jungle Journey at the Botanic Gardens. I think they will really enjoy this. Please send the money and permission slip by November 7, 2014 so we can get the bus and lunches reserved. You are welcome to chaperone the more help the better, however, please keep in mind that you must be on the approved list by the Board of Education. You can register here at the computer lab before or after school.
Please send only cash as the office cannot accept checks.
Students should be reading at home every night. They are able to check out a library book each week as long as they do not owe fines and/or have not returned a checked out book. It is the hope that students will read and comprehend the story and be able to pass an Accelerated Reading Test on the book. They will earn points which are turned into points for the AR store. We are not even on the mural yet with any points. Keep reading! Practice, Practice, Practice. You can never practice too much for reading. Students should be able to tell about the Characters, Setting, and major events of the story to pass the test. They must score with an 80% or better.
Hope you have a great week!
